Acceptable use policy

Last updated 24 September 2026.

The principle

Achievers gives access to personal and business information so people can make better, lawful decisions. Every check must have a lawful purpose, the consent or other legal basis the law requires, and only the information that check needs.

You must

  • state the true purpose of each check
  • have the person's consent, or another valid legal basis, before checking them
  • use results only for the purpose you stated
  • keep results secure and share them only with people who need them for that purpose
  • keep your account details, 2FA and API keys private
  • tell us straight away if you think your account or keys are being misused

You must not

  • run a check without a lawful purpose or the consent the law requires
  • use a result to stalk, harass, threaten or unlawfully discriminate against anyone
  • resell, publish or bulk export results beyond what your agreement allows
  • use automated tools to query Achievers outside the official API
  • try to get around rate limits, spending limits, consent steps or other controls
  • give false information about yourself, your organisation or the person being checked
  • share your account or let someone else use it
  • test the security of Achievers without our written permission

What we do about misuse

We monitor for misuse, such as repeated checks on the same person from different accounts. We may ask you to explain a check, pause or close your account, revoke API keys, withhold results and report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities.

Reporting misuse

If you believe someone has checked you without a lawful reason, or used a result against you unfairly, tell us through Disputes and corrections. We will look into it.
